Ingredients

2 cups of fresh or frozen blueberries (if you can't find blueberries, you can use strawberries or raspberries)

½ cup of sugar (feel free to reduce this to ⅓ cup if you prefer it less sweet or substitute with honey or maple syrup)

1 tablespoon of lemon juice (this brightens everything up! You can use lime juice in a pinch)

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional but adds a lovely depth)

Instructions

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

Get all your ingredients ready and close by because we’re about to get cooking!

Step 2: Combine Ingredients in a Pan

Take a medium saucepan and throw in the blueberries, sugar, and lemon juice. If you're using vanilla, add that in too.

          Step 3: Heat Things Up

Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir everything together gently as the mixture starts to warm up. You might hear some bubbling, and that’s a good sign!

              Step 4: Simmer Away

Let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Give it a good stir every couple of minutes to prevent sticking. You’ll see the blueberries bursting open, creating a lovely juice. If you want a thicker compote, let it cook a little longer. If you like it saucy, take it off a bit sooner!

                  Step 5: Cool and Store

Once it's reached your desired consistency, remove it from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes. Then, transfer your blueberry compote into a jar or an airtight container. It's best to let it cool completely before sealing it!
