Ingredients

  • 4 ripe bananas not overly soft; they should be slightly firm but not green. You can substitute with plantains for a different twist!
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter coconut oil works great too if you're looking for a dairy-free option
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar brown sugar gives a richer caramel flavor, but white sugar can also work in a pinch
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon optional, but oh-so-yummy! You can go wild with other spices like nutmeg or even a dash of chili powder for an extra kick
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream chocolate sauce, or chopped nuts

Instructions

  • Prepare the Bananas: First things first, we’ll need to peel our bananas, but hold on! We’re not chopping them into pieces. Instead, slice each banana lengthwise (from pole to pole) to create a little “boat” for the goodies to sit in. Just two cuts, and you're golden!
  • Mix That Goodness: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Give it a good stir so all those flavors mingle together. You want it to be thick but pourable like a luscious syrup.
  • Coat Those Babies: Using a basting brush (or just a spoon if you're feeling rebellious!), coat the cut side of the bananas with the butter-sugar mixture generously. Don’t be shy here; it’s what’s going to make them taste phenomenal!
  • Preheat the Grill: While you’re prepping the bananas, fire up your grill. If you’re using a charcoal grill, get those coals nice and hot! If you’re using gas, set your burners to medium-high heat. We want a nice surface to get those stripes!
  • Grill Away: Place the bananas face down (the cut side) on the grill. Close the lid and let them cook for about 4-5 minutes. Keep an eye on them — we don’t want them too charred! Once you see grill marks forming, flip them over and let them grill for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Once done, remove the bananas from the grill and plate them up! They’re fantastic on their own, but feel free to drizzle some chocolate sauce or add a dollop of whipped cream. You can even sprinkle some nuts on top for that extra crunch. Yum!
