Ingredients

  • 12-14 lasagna noodles You can use no-boil noodles too or gluten-free alternatives
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage Feel free to swap with ground turkey or even a plant-based meat substitute
  • 3 cups marinara sauce Store-bought is fine! Or you can use homemade if you're feeling fancy
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese Cottage cheese works too if you want a lighter option
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Swap with provolone or a dairy-free cheese if needed
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning Or you can mix dried basil, oregano, and thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat Your Oven: First, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This is where the magic begins!
  • Cook the Meat: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or sausage over medium-high heat. Drain any excess fat. Stir in 2 cups of marinara sauce and let it simmer for about 5 minutes. This creates a flavorful meat sauce!
  • Mix the Ricotta: In another bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt and pepper. This cheesy layer is going to be delightful!
  • Cook the Noodles: If you’re using traditional lasagna noodles, cook them according to the package instructions until they are al dente—about 8-10 minutes.
  • Layer It Up: Alright, let’s assemble! In a 9x13-inch baking dish, start with a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom. Next, a layer of noodles, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, a third of the meat sauce, and a cup of mozzarella. Repeat the layers, finishing with noodles on top. Spread the remaining marinara sauce over the noodles and sprinkle the last of the mozzarella and Parmesan on top.
  • Bake to Perfection: Cover your lasagna with foil (don’t let it touch the cheese!) and bake for 25 minutes. After that, remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until bubbling and golden brown. Your kitchen will smell heavenly!
  • Cool and Serve: Let the lasagna cool for about 10-15 minutes before slicing. This is crucial! Otherwise, you’ll end up with a gooey mess. But oh, is it worth the wait?!
